Ethics for sustainable development

What ethics do we need to master the major challenges of our time? And how can we take action together?

Description

In 2015, the United Nations adopted the 2030 Agenda including 17 Global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for socially, economically and ecologically sustainable development. The agenda is a roadmap for the future on how to enable a decent life worldwide while preserving the natural foundations of life in the long term. Religions and ethics play an important role in this. Almost two thirds of all people around the world describe themselves as religious. Religious leaders influence politics and society, and faith based communities shape the lives of their members. They provide social services and reachout to people at grassroots level. Religions are part of the problem and part of the solution. The high potential for transformation has found its place in international development policy as a focus on “religion and development”.

"We need to raise awareness that we will only overcome the problems of our time together or not at all."

Pope Fracis, Fratelli tutti 137
